Cinema Beans: The Lorax
Dr. Suess’ original “The Lorax” is the thunder. It sounds good on paper. You cannot deny its power. You recognize its presence. The eye-popping colors are the lightning—whoa, holy shit, this is gonna cause some seizures! I think they went a wee bit over the top? They better be careful with this movie, children are easily taken. The rain is the incessant barrage of product placement surrounding a film that seeks to teach children morals that oppose such mass consumerism, using The Lorax as a mascot for reasonably priced Kindles and the family friendly, mid-sized Mazda CX-5. And the silence is me, going to my quiet place, trying not to scream about the fact that countless studios seem incapable of understanding that children can intrinsically understand the difference right and wrong without being coddled and demeaned by the blowhards over at Illumination Entertainment.
