Cinema Beans: Bullhead
Can't climb the rope: too top-heavy and no foundation. Bullhead is built on a flimsy and haphazardly thrown together premise that somehow interweaves with a floundering crime tale that's neither interesting nor relevant to the film's strange animalistic themes. Bullhead wants to be the buff kid in class, but spent so much time perfecting its muscles that it forgot about strength training.
MMI: American Reunion
American Reunion is about the weight of time and how we accrue experiences and commitments that...exhaust us. The characters are worn out by the youthful actions the plot has them take. What's the plot build to? Settling into maturity, commitment. In other words: adulthood. Maybe the characters could climb the rope in the first three movies, but the point of this one is you don't have to, there are other things to do. But then, on the flip side, I don't think it's a very good movie, that it struggled with the timing and rhythm of its jokes, not to mention use of character and conflict. So I doubt the film had the vigor or athleticism to climb a rope even if it wanted to.
